Revision Rhinoplasty Recovery TimeSeptember 10, 2017
Revision rhinoplasty procedure may be performed in a few cases where the patient is not satisfied with the outcome of the primary nose job. The revision procedure is often more intricate than the original surgery. The recovery process in this procedure can vary according to the extent of surgery performed.
The surgeon will discuss various aspects of the recovery during the initial consultation. Terrific, reliable, and board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie provides revision rhinoplasty to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood CA, and surrounding communities.
Immediate Post-Op Phase
The patient will wake up in a recovery room once the revision nose surgery is over and the effects of anesthesia have subsided. They are likely to experience minor difficulty in breathing through the nose. Most patients will have a splint applied outside the nose along with soft packing in the nostrils.
The packing will be removed in about three to five days, and the splint may be removed in about one week. The surgeon will schedule follow-up appointments for the weeks and months ahead to monitor the recovery and results. If the patient has any concerns during the recovery, they should speak to the surgeon.
Most patients will be able to return home the same day after revision rhinoplasty. The surgeon will provide them with detailed post-surgical instructions. The final success of the procedure will depend on how conscientiously the patient follows the instructions. In the first one or two days after the surgery, it is preferable to a family member or a friend to assist with certain tasks at home.
The surgeon will instruct the patient against smoking and using certain types of medications and blood thinners for at least a specified number of days. They will be required to avoid vigorous activities and exercises and lifting heavy weights for about one month.
Other instructions to support healing would include staying hydrated, using cold compresses, resting adequately, and performing short walks or light activities within the home to promote blood flow.
First 48 Hours
The first 24 hours are typically the most difficult for most patients. The effects of anesthesia may linger, and mild pain and discomfort in the incision sites is expected. Prescription pain meds will help to keep the patient comfortable. Bruising, swelling, headaches and nosebleeds are other challenges that the patient will have to deal with initially.
In the first 48 hours, the patient should take plenty of rest and keep their head in an elevated position while resting. Face will feel puffy during this period, and nosebleeds are common in the first 48 hours. The patient must avoid blowing the nose during this period to allow for healing to improve.
After One Week
The nasal packing, splint and sutures may be removed in about one week after revision rhinoplasty. Although minor swelling will still remain, the patient may be able to return to their normal routine or go back to their workplace. Sensational and sagacious surgeon Dr. Motykie receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood CA, and other parts of the southwest for revision rhinoplasty.
